PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head which has low coercive force and high magnetic permeability and is suitable for high density recording by providing a high permeability film having prescribed characteristics on a supporting substrate consisting of a sapphire single crystal having prescribed crystal faces. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic head has the supporting substrate 1 consisting of the sapphire single crystal having the crystal faces including the {10-12} face and existing between the {10-12} face and the {0001} face with the [10-10] direction as the axis of rotation. The direction which exists in the crystal face and is perpendicular to the {10-10} direction is made the axis of difficult magnetization and the high permeability magnetic film 2 is formed on the substrate 1 in such a manner that the direction of the axis of difficult magnetization is perpendicular to the plane of the magnetic recording medium. |
