PURPOSE:To execute easily the program researching at the time of reproduction by dividing the scanning period of the rotating head into plural, recording and reproducing a PCM sound signal at the divided divisions, further dividing fine the prescribed division out of the divided divisions and recording the prescribed code signal. CONSTITUTION:The scanning period of the rotating head to execute the recording and reproducing is divided into the first-the sixth segments, by optional divided divisions, a PCM sound signal is recorded and reproduced, an optional segment, for example, the third segment is removed from the recording and reproducing division of the PCM sound signal, and the segment is used as the recording and reproducing division of the prescribed code signal for the program researching, etc. Further, the third segment is divided equally into five corresponding to five remaining segments, the dividing 10 is further divided into nine equally, the first part is made into a PLL part 11 and eight parts are made into a code block 13. At a block 13, as the prescribed code signal, a music number 14, an index 15, a time code 16, etc., are recorded. Thus, the good program researching can be executed at the time of reproduction.
