PURPOSE:To make a wheel lightweight and to reduce noise during running of a railway vehicle, by using a high strength fiber reinforced composite material composed of biased symmertrically laminated layers having a predetermined fiber-orientating angle with respect to the axis of the wheel. CONSTITUTION:A biased symmetric CFRP prepreg sheet 1 in which fibers are orientated at an angle theta in a range from 40 deg. to 85 deg. with respect to the horizontal axis of a wheel, and which is impregnated with epoxy resin, is wound around a mandrel 2 and is applied with pressure and heat in an autoclave 3 to form a thick wall pipe 4 which is then cut into a wheel 6. With this arrangement, the weight of the wheel may be decreased, thereby it is possible to reduce noise.
