PURPOSE:To produce acryloyl isocyanate and haloalkanoyl isocyanate useful as raw material of various polymers, in high yield, by the thermal decomposition of an oxazolinedione hydrohalide under normal pressure. CONSTITUTION:The oxazolinedione hydrohalide of formula I (R is H or alkyl; X is halogen) is thermally decomposed under normal pressure to obtain the acryloyl isocyanate of formula II and the haloalkanoyl isocyanate of formula III, which are separated and collected separately. When the thermal decomposition under normal pressure is carried out at a relatively high temperature and/or in a short time, a large amount of the acryloyl isocyanate of formula II is produced, and when the reaction is performed at a relatively low temperature and/or spending a long period, the product is rich in the haloalkanoyl isocyanate of formula III.
