PURPOSE:To perform accurate length measurement by making the pulse signals corresponding to a detected number of mark when the mark provided to a tape-shaped material body is detected by a detecting means. CONSTITUTION:When rays of light emitted from projectors 15 and 16 are photodetected by photodetectors 17 and 18 through an aperture 9, two kinds of the pulse signals S1 and S2 with different phases by 90 deg. are outputted from the photodetectors 17 and 18 and inputted to a pulse generator 19 and a counter 20 with direction discrimination. The counter 20 receives the signals S1 and S2 and discriminates a moving direction of a tape measure 7 and outputs a multiplied pulse signal S3 corresponding to a detected aperture number which is inputted to an interface 11 at the input side. Then, a CPU 10 calculates a measured length value according to a program predetermined with a ROM 14 by using the signal S3. The measured length value is displayed with a digital display device 5 and further, the measured length value is properly outputted to the outside from a speaker 22 via a speech synthesis circuit 21. |
