PURPOSE:To increase the number of learning words containable in a registration table by registering storing position information relating to kanji (Chinese character) code for which kanji conversion processing is made once in a learning word table. CONSTITUTION:File number 11 and address information 17 retrieved according to kana (Japanese syllabary) letter information 13 inputted from an inputting section 2 are registered in a registration table 9. Thereafter, when kana letter information 13 is inputted from the inputting section 2, a collating section 19 collates file number 11 retrieved by a retrieving section 12 and file number 11 in the registration table 9. When they coincide, kanji code K is retrieved from a dictionary file 1 basing on information 20 consisting of the file number 11 and address information 17. When they do not coincide, kanji code K is retrieved from the dictionary file 1 by file number 11 in a temporary storage section 16 and address information of an address counter 14.
