PURPOSE:To prevent the flowing of currents in the opposite direction through second ballast resistors connected to adjacent other cathodes by connecting reverse-current preventive elements in series with each first ballast resistor and connecting second ballast resistors between each of adjacent node in the connection in series with the first ballast resistors and a shimmer power supply. CONSTITUTION:When shimmer discharge is generated at 2000V between an electrode such as an anode A and proper one electrode such as a cathode K1 and shimmer discharge is not generated among the anode A and other cathodes K2-K4, currents flowing through the cathode K1 from the anode A return to a shimmer power supply ES through first and second ballast resistors RM1, RS1. One part of currents intends to flow through other cathodes K2-K4 through a diode D1 in the direction shown in the arrows by dotted lines at that time, but currents do not flow through several first ballast resistor RM2-RM4 because diodes D2-D4 are connected previously to respective cathode K2-K4. Accordingly, shimmer discharge is generated only between the anode A and the cathode K1, and voltage between the anode A and each of other cathode K2-K4 is held at the voltage of -2,000V of the shimmer power supply ES even when shimmer discharge is at -1,500V. |
