PURPOSE:To prevent the surface roughening, etc., due to the transference from the work roll, and to extend the life of the backup roll, by making at least one of backup rolls of the cold rolling mill provided with the dull faced work rolls of the tool steel containing a specified amount of C, V. CONSTITUTION:At least of backup rolls, preferably the first intermediate backup roll, of the cold rolling mill provided with the dull faced work rolls and the backup rolls to backup these work rolls, is made of the tool steel containing 0.7-2wt%C, and 1-5wt%V. By containing not less than 0.7%C, a part of C is dissolved into the base metal, and the residual C combines with Cr, Mo, W, V, forming the hard carbide which improves the abrasion resistance. Accordingly, 1-5wt%V is necessary, and the carbon content 2wt% is required to obtain the good VC carbide structure. |
