PURPOSE:To effectively detect a malfunction early by providing regulating means for regulating the amplitude of a reference value of a protecting circuit on the basis of a regeneration signal. CONSTITUTION:A regenerative brake device 5 regenerates power generated from a motor 4 to a power source side when the motor 4 is decelerated. A controller 57 sets the device 5 in an operating state on the basis of a regenera tion signal. A current flowed to the device 5 is compared by a comparator 6 with a reference value from regulating means 7, and when a current flowed to the device 5 becomes larger than the reference value, transistors 51-56 are turned OFF and protected. The value from the means 7 is regulated on the basis of the regeneration signal.
