PURPOSE:To improve handiness when switching focal length by making the switching of focal length possible during the first step operation of a release. CONSTITUTION:A switch S3 is switched over to a contact (b) side and a lens system is shifted by driving a motor 35 and the motor is stopped when it is judged that the lens barrel is at regular photographing position by the signal of a switch S4. A switch S1 is made on by the operation of the first step of a release button and when the switch S3 is off, photometry and range finding are performed. Further, a series of photographing is performed by the operation of the second step of the release button. When it is detected by the switch S4 that the lens system is not at the regular position, processes after photometry and range finding are repeated. Accordingly, as it is possible to switch the focal length during the operation of the first step of the release button, the switching of a standard lens and a telephoto lens can be made while performing photometry and the handiness can be enhanced.
