PURPOSE:To elongate the defrosting operation cycle and to attempt to maintain the heat exchange ability as a condenser by providing a hole at the air flow inlet side of a plate fin where a heat exchanger is used as an evaporator. CONSTITUTION:The heat exchanger unit 10 is composed of a heat exchanger 14 comprising a blower 11 capable of reversing the air flow plate fins 12, and a coolant pipes 13. In the fins 12, elliptical holes 15 are formed in water stop regions A formed between the end surfaces of the fins 12 on the blower side 11 and the coolant pipes 13. Even when the heat exchanger 14 is used as an evaporator under such a condition that frost is generated, holes 15 which are located adjacent to the end surfaces of the fins 12 at the air inlet side reduce the fin efficiency on the end surfaces of the fins 12 and also reduce the amount of frost attached to the end surfaces thereby to cause the frost 16 to attach substantially uniformly on the end surfaces of the fins 12. By these procedures, the time required up to the clogging between the fins 12 can be delayed and the defrosting operation cycle can be prolonged.
