The chromatography column (1) is provided with a winding (4) of metal wire (5) over at least part of its external surface. It consists of a tube (2) of fused silica with an external organic polymer coating (3; e.g. polyamide, poly-silicone, poly-carbonate, etc.) of which the entire outer surface is covered by the metal wire. The wire covering may be in the form of helical winding(s) or a wire meshwork and may consist of stainless steel. It may be arranged as different (individually connectable) sections.
