A polymerization catalyst which remains in produced polymer is deactivated. In the case that the catalyst is acid or that deactivation process produces acid, the acid is neutralized with catalyst deactivation agent. The deactivation agent AaxB1-bx(OH)yCzc nH2O [ A,B = metal ion, Z = 0-(ax + b(1-x)-y)/C, x=0-1, y = 2-ax + b(1-x)-CZ, n=0-1, C=anion such as CO3-2, HCO3-,PO4-3! is added to reaction mixt. before produced polymer is separated from the reaction mixt.
