PURPOSE:To enable high-quality printing to be performed even in the case of high-energy thermal transfer designed for high-speed printing, by providing a surface layer on a heat-fusible ink layer, while using a vehicle with a relatively lower melting point in the heat-fusible ink and using a vehicle with a relatively higher melting point in the surface layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer sheet comprises the heat-fusible ink layer on one side of a base film. In the transfer sheet, the ink layer comprises a mixture of a vehicle having a melting point of 40-80 deg.C and a coloring agent, and a surface layer comprising a vehicle a melting point of 50-100 deg.C which is higher than the melting point of the vehicle in the ink layer by 10-60 deg.C is provided on the side of the base sheet brought into contact with a transfer recording paper. The base film may be an ordinary one, e.g., a film of a plastic such as a polyester, polypropylene, cellophane, acetate and a polycarbonate, or a paper such as a condenser paper and a paraffin paper. The heat-fusible ink is an ink or coating composition prepared by mixing a coloring agent with a wax and, optionally, a resin, and adding arbitrary additives thereto, if required. |
