The method consists of (a) intermittent introduction in spray form into the combustion chamber, by an injection device or lance, of a liq. additive; (b) controlling the additive to pH 7-9; (c) regulating the dew point of the chimney gas; (d) adjusting the quantity and compsn. of the additive to regulate the dew point to the desired level. - The additive contains thymol blue or bromo-thymol blue as pH indicator, and an aq. soln. of ammonium nitrate, alkali metal nitrate (KNO3) or alkaline earth nitrate (Mg(NO3)2).
