Metal compound powders strengthened by dispersion are described having an average particle size less than approximately 50 microns and an average grain size in the particles of approximately 0.05 to 0.6 microns. The powders are prepared by mechanical alloying or ball milling metal powder and refractory particles in the presence of a cryogenic material.
