PURPOSE:To decrease the defects as well as the manufacturing manhour of a magnetic head by eliminating the shift of the gap phase and furthermore omitting the conventional grooves worked to both U and I bars. CONSTITUTION:The U bars 21 and 31 and I bars 22 and 32 serving as magnetic material plates for record/reproduction 20 and erasion 30 are welded via nonmagnetic materials 23 and 33. The butted faces between U bars 21/31 and I bars 22/32 are ground and polished. A recording/reproducing or erase gap of 0.1-3.0mum is formed on one of both finished butted faces by vapor-depositing or sputtering a material of SiO2, etc. and then welding a nonmagnetic material. Then the grooves for recording/reproducing 40 and erasion 50 are cut to both bars respectively and the phase matching is carried out so that the gap width for recording/reproducing 40 is coincident with that for erasion 50 at a pre scribed position. Then a nonmagnetic matter 60 is held between both bars and welded. Thus a magnetic head core block is obtained. This block is cut along an alternate long and shot dash line and undergoes a coil winding working after the thickness working. In such a way, a magnetic head core is obtained.
