PURPOSE:To obtain a compact and simple orientating device by providing the loci having areas passing over a nonmagnetic supporter above and under said supporter which travels in a single direction at a prescribed speed and then driving the orientation means along both loci. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer 3 can be orientated concentrically while an orientating magnet 1 is moving toward M form B on a locus 2 having a cycloidal part and fixed at a constant position against a coating device which applies a magnetic material onto a nonmagnetic supporter traveling at a fixed speed. A locus connecting between positions M and A and avoiding passing over the layer 3 as less as possible so that the undesired orientation is not given to the layer 3 as less as possible and the magnet 1 is reset to the position A from the position M. Then the magnet 1 is driven on said locus toward M from A and B. For this purpose, two cycloidal loci exactly equal to each other are closed with each other within the same plane.
