PURPOSE:To facilitate the easy retrieval at a high speed and to shorten the retrieving time by using the corresponding position information changing continuously to perform retrieval if the existence of said position information is confirmed in case a specific position of a recording medium is retrieved by the grouped information out of the address signals. CONSTITUTION:The address information recorded in a vertical blanking section of a video signal is detected by an address signal reading part 14 and fetched by a controller part 15. While the head position information of a chapter is stored in a memory part 19. When an indication is given from an operating part 16 for retrieval of a specific position on a disk 1, the part 15 confirms whether the retrieval is carried out by the chapter or not. When the retrieval done by the chapter is confirmed, the part 15 checks whether or not the time information on the head position of a target chapter is already stored in the part 19. If it is confirmed that said time information is already stored in the part 19, the corresponding time information is retrieved in place of the target chapter for retrieval.
