PURPOSE:The titled yarn having an extremely wide range of application and extremely improved compatibility with various matrixes without carrying out a specific chemical treatment, etc., to improve wetting properties, obtained by changing diameter of the yarn. CONSTITUTION:Yarn obtained by spinning carbon aceous pitch is made infusible, it is carbonized or graphitized to give the aimed yarn having change in yarn diameter. In the concrete method to obtain the yarn, for example, before the pitch is spun, the raw material pitch is previously kept at 360-490 deg.C at 0-44min, so that pitch having the greater part consisting of an isotropic part and 5-15wt% mesophase with <=10mum is formed and it is spun.
