PREPARATION:For example, a 1-deoxyglucosamine hydrochloride shown by the formula IV is reacted with an aldehyde or ketone in a proper solvent and the prepared Schiff base is reduced with NaBH3CN to give a compound shown by the formula I where Z is group shown by the formula II.
