Method of making a cast iron envelope for a recuperative heat exchanger facilitates assembly by fusion of envelope halves along spaced sides to provide effective bonding at min. cost. Bottom half of the envelope (10) is cast to form a concave wall with peripheral surface extending along a pair of opposite sides of the envelope (14) . Convex mould is prepd. for top half of the envelope, including elongated slits on opposite sides. Molten metal is poured into the mould to form the top half of the envelope and metal flowing through the slits comes into contact with the peripheral surface on the bottom half, fusing to form a strong, leak-free bond.
|
