PURPOSE:To prepare correct machining data and readily select the most suitable tool by outputting tool selection menus according to machining process on the screen of a display unit to picture a workpiece final shape in the selection of the most suitable tool used by an NC lathe or the like. CONSTITUTION:A data input unit 3, display unit 4, program memory 5, data memory 6 for storing data, control section 8 to control the main spindle of a machining device 7, and so on are connected with the bus 2 of a CPU 1. When a tool of different cutting edge angle, for example, is selected as the most suitable tool according to the data stored in the data memory 6 on a plurality of tools and the machining process of a workpiece, the machining trajectories are operated by the CPU 1 to be pictured on the display unit 4 along with the final shape of the workpiece. And a tool selection menu to select the most suitable tool is displayed for a programmer to prepare correct machining data.
