PURPOSE:To make up the deficiency of the electrolysis in the edge parts to a steel sheet and to remove satisfactorily fats and oils from the entire surface of the steel sheet by dividing the ends of anode and cathode electrodes to a plurality in the moving direction of the steel sheet and changing the quantity of the electric current flowing between the divided electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The respective ends of the anode electrode 2 and cathode electrode 3 are divided to plural pieces along the moving direction of the steel sheet 1 to form divided anodes 2a and divided cathodes 3a. The electric current is transmitted from the anode 2 through the electrolyte to the sheet 1 and flows again through the inside of the electrolyte to the cathode 3 when the steel sheet 1 to which a rolling mill lubricant sticks passes between both electrodes 2 and 3. The fats and oils sticking to the surfaces of the sheet 1 are removed in this stage. The current flowing from the divided anode electrodes 2a passes the edge parts of the sheet 1 and flows toward the divided cathode electrodes 3a. The current density in the edge parts of the sheet 1 is thereby increased and the rate of electrolysis is increased. The fats and oils are thus effectively removed in said parts.
