PURPOSE:To boride a material which can not be borided by a conventional method by allowing an element which combines readily with boron to exist on the surface of the material and by carrying out boriding. CONSTITUTION:For example, when 'STELLITE(R)' is directly borided, boron does not enter the material, so a borided hard layer is not formed. In order to form a borided hard layer, nitrogen having a great affinity for boron is allowed to enter the material before boriding so that boron can enter the material.
