PURPOSE:To improve the reaction in a blast furnace and to contrive to improve productivity and maintenance characteristic of the furnace body, improve fuel ratio, etc., by operating the blast furnace in such a manner as to maintain adequately the temp. of the furnace core body measured by a probe inserted therein. CONSTITUTION:A furnace core sonde 1 holding the probe which has internally a glass fiber connected with an image processor and/or thermometer and has the length to permit the insertion into the core body 12 of the blast furnace 2 and the function to cool itself to a self-traveling carriage 11 is used. Such probe 10 is inserted into the furnace through a bent pipe 7 of a tuyere 5 for blowing hot air and an air shut-off device 9 provided in a rear part 8 in the lower part of a straight pipe 6 to measure the temp. of the body 12. The furnace is so operated as to maintain the measured temp. of the furnace core body at >=1,200 deg.C. The reaction in the furnace is thus improved by the good ventilation characteristic.
