This process comprises the following steps: - printing a calendered transparent film; - laminating this film to a calendered opaque sheet and then, possibly, laminating this assembly to a thick plastic sub-layer; - cutting up the final assembly into tiles (slabs). According to the invention, a first series of tiles (slabs) 3 is manufactured by printing on the transparent film a design 2 oriented in the direction in which the said film runs and a second series of tiles (slabs) 4 by printing, on the transparent film, the same design 2 making a predetermined angle with the direction in which the said film runs. <IMAGE>
