PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of skid marks on materials to be heated by providing stationary skids fixed with the position for supporting the materials to be heated and plural rows of movable skids which move upward and downward alternately the supporting surfaces of the materials to be heated to a continuous heating furnace for metallic slabs. CONSTITUTION:Plural rows of the stationary skids 1 fixed with the position for supporting the slabs S to be heated are disposed in the pusher type heating furnace toward the longitudinal direction thereof. The plural movable skids 2 of the same number as the number of the stationary skids 1 are further provided in proximity to a soaking hearth 3 behind the region where the skids 1 are provided, at >=1 points in the longitudinal direction of the furnace. The skids 2 are provided in the positions shifted by about 200-500mm each in the transverse direction of the furnace without aligning linearly the same to the skids 1 toward the longitudinal direction of the furnace. The movable skids are moved upward and downward alternately to support the slabs S.
