PURPOSE:To contact two optical fibers with each other by their end faces so as to prevent their end faces from being damaged, by forming the end face of a ferrule to a spherical surface and the minor end face section of the ferrule containing the end section of one of the optical fibers to a convex spherical surface having a radius of curvature larger than that of the spherical surface at the end face of the ferrule. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 2 is held and fixed to a ferrule 1 along the central axis of the ferrule 1 and the front end section 3 of the ferrule 1 is formed to a convex spherical surface having a radius of curvature R1. On the other hand, the minor end face section 4 containing the end section of the optical fiber 2 out of the front end section of the ferrule 1 has a radius of curvature R2 which is larger than the radius of curvature R1 and its center 5 lies on the central axis of the ferrule 1. Moreover, the radius of curvature of the surface of the minor section 4 containing the end section of the optical fiber 2 is made infinite. In other words, the surface of the minor section 4 is formed of a surface normal to the central axis of the ferrule 1. |
