In a circuit arrangement for controlling a GTO thyristor (V) with a pulse transformer (T) arranged in the turn-off control circuit for the GTO thyristor (V), the secondary winding (II) of which transformer is connected via decoupling diodes (D5...Dn) between the control terminal and the cathode of the GTO thyristor (V) and the primary winding (I) of which is connected to a first voltage source (E1) via a first switching element (Q2) for the entire duration (tgw) of the turn-off process of the GTO thyristor (V), a lower stray inductance of the pulse transformer (T) is to be made possible by reducing the required voltage/time area in the latter. This is achieved by the fact that the primary winding (I) of the pulse transformer (T) is connected to a second voltage source (E2), the voltage of which is connected via a second switching element (Q1) to the voltage of the first voltage source (E1) from the beginning of the turn-off process for a much shorter time (T1) than the total duration (tgw) of the turn-off process. <IMAGE>
