PURPOSE:To obtain an image having an excellent resolution, by providing an image forming element comprising an org. compd. having phase transition properties and a functional molecule, inputting heat and light signals corresponding to information and scanning the signals with a scanning means. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating layer 2 is provided on a substrate 1. On the heat generating layer 2 is provided an image forming layer 3 comprising a film of a mixture of an org. compd. molecule having phase transition properties (e.g.: linolenic acid) with a functional molecule (e.g.: imidazole cmpd. of the formula), which exhibits its function upon being exposed to light, to form an image forming element 10. Light signals 12 and heat signals 13 corresponding to information are simultaneously input into the image forming element 10 with a heat-light inputting means 11 to cause phase transition of the org. compd. molecule having phase transition properties for softening and at the same time, to cause a photochemical change of the functional molecule. Subsequently, the input heat and light signals 12 are scanned with a scanning means to form an image.
