In a method for reducing the band tension in an endless conveyor belt which is provided with at least two drive cylinders, at least one electric motor being assigned to each drive cylinder, a reduction of the band force is achieved by a method wherein the electric motors of the drive cylinders can be adjusted in respect of their speed of rotation and torque and are in each case controlled on the basis of the proportional band stress determined. This control is preferably implemented in infinitely variable manner.
