For the purpose of avoiding a disturbing "friction moment jump" on engaging the clutch, a friction clutch contains at least two groups of friction lining segments (2, 3) made of materials of different friction coefficients, the segments (2) made of the material of higher friction coefficients being arranged in a set-back manner in relation to the segments (3) made of the material of lower friction coefficients, so that, during clutch-engaging movements, countersurfaces (6, 7) opposite the segments (2, 3) first touch the segments (3) made of the material of lower friction coefficients, accordingly generating a lower friction moment rise, while the friction contact between the countersurfaces (6, 7) and the segments (2) made of material of higher friction coefficients is made only when the countersurfaces (6, 7) draw closer still (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
