PURPOSE:To prevent the input of a forgery finger pring pattern by using a contrast of a picture element at a prescribed position in a picture made of a reflected light so as to discriminate whether or not an object is a normal object to be checked when the object to be checked is placed on a transparent finger print placing face. CONSTITUTION:A finger print input section 9 comprising a prism on which an object to be checked such as a finger for the purpose of taking a finger print, a light source irradiating the placing face from the inside and a image pickup device inputting the reflected light as a picture, uses a picture timing control section 10 discriminating the end of placing the object to be checked to offer the control and inputs a picture pattern to be collated and gives the result to a forgery input discrimination section 11. Whether or not a forgery finger print is inputted is discriminated depending on the contrast of a picture element at a prescribed location of an input picture, and when the input is normal, the result is given to a picture memory 12, and whether or not the inputted finger print is the finger print registered in a registration file is collated by a collation processor 15.
