PURPOSE:To prevent a gear entanglement which takes place in intermeshing of gears contained in a carriage rotation means by driving a pulse motor alternately and repeatedly in forward and reverse rotations at the time when the carriage pivoting means is driven. CONSTITUTION:The forward and reverse rotations of a pulse motor are alternately repeated. During intermeshing operation of the teeth 19 of a gear A and the teeth 17 of a rack B including its initial stages, the teeth 19 of the gear A and the teeth 17 of the rack B are gradually and mutually rocked to intermesh each other. Thus, intermeshing of the teeth 19 and the teeth 17 is carried out while the load created between these teeth 19 and 17 is being reduced, resulting in prevention of gear entanglement, which is otherwise to be caused between the teeth 19 and the teeth 17. Therefore, pivoting by the carriage-pivoting means is carried out as desired, and a satisfactory printing characteristics is always available. |
