PURPOSE:To improve the fitting precision of a light source by increasing the sectional area of a channel optical waveguide on an end surface side where the light source is fitted. CONSTITUTION:The channel optical waveguide 11 consists of an expanded part 12 and a thin part 13, a semiconductor laser diode 4 is fitted to the end surface 14 of the expanded part 12 and the thin part 13 is formed to the width and thickness of a channel optical waveguide 3 which is formed by conventional technique. The expanded part 12 consists of upper and lower slanting surfaces 15 and 16 and side slanting surfaces 17 and 18 which slant increasing in thickness and width gradually toward the end surface 14. The tilt angles of those upper and lower slanting surfaces 15 and 16 and side slanting surfaces 17 and 18 are set within a specific ranges so that laser light entered from the end surface 15 is reflected totally by the respective slanting surfaces 15 and 16, and 17 and 18 and does not leak out. Consequently, the area of the end surface 14 is increased and the semiconductor laser diode 4 is easily fitted, so that the fitting precision of the semiconductor diode 4 is improved. |
