PURPOSE:To detect many original sizes by arranging plural original size detection sensors for detecting the length of an original in the running direction of originals. CONSTITUTION:Original size detection sensors 11 and 12 are provided in the lengthwise direction of an original tray 1, so when an original placed on the original tray 1 is of A5 size, only the original size detection sensor 3 detects the original. When the original size is A4, on the other hand, original size detection sensors 3, 11, and 12 detect the original. Further, when the original is of letter size, the original size detection sensors 3 and 11 detect the original. If the original is different lengthwise even when it is equal in width, that is detected, so the original which is equal in width, but different in length can be detected accurately. Thus, a wrong original size is not detected unlike a conventional device.
