A radial tyre for lorries or buses is proposed, which to the greatest possible extent suppresses the temperature rise at the two edges of the belt layer in order to reduce the feared detachment phenomena of the edge layers, but at the same time also reduces the uneven wear phenomena in the shoulder area of the tyre. The tread of the tyre is divided by two circumferential main grooves (G1, G2) into two shoulder ribs (Rs) and a central rib (Rc). The inner half of the section (Rs2) of the shoulder ribs is divided by means of grooves (3) into blocks, specifically in such a way that the overall volume Va of the grooves (2) in the outer half (Rs1) of the shoulder ribs is equal to or smaller than the overall volume Vb of the grooves in the inner half of the rib section. <IMAGE>
