The invention relates to an adjustable camshaft for achieving a higher power in the various operating phases of four-stroke internal combustion engines functioning with valves. The camshaft (1) has an electronic control circuit (8), which processes the signals (9) coming from various engine parameters and obtained on its inlet. The camshaft is capable of axial displacement with amplitudes which are necessary in order to control the static angular position of the eccentrics controlling the valves. The cams (6, 7) have an axially variable profile, so that the axial adjustment of the shaft (1) influences the opening and closing times of the valves, as a result of which the running of the engine can be adjusted, as required, according to the relevant parameters. <IMAGE>
