A holder is described for foam containers having a container receiver, to be detachably attached to a metering gun, having a valve adaptor. The valve adaptor has a cylindrical centring indentation, on which the container can be mounted in a centred manner by a cylindrical part on the container neck. The centring indentation contains a receiving opening for the tappet of the container-side opening valve which automatically opens this valve on mounting the container. The container receiver has a holder which grips by an end part on the valve adaptor and has a second end part at an axial distance therefrom which supports the container in the transverse direction.
