MAGNETO-RESISTANCE TYPE MAGNETIC HEAD

PURPOSE:To eliminate Barkhausen noises produced by the irregular shifts of a magnetic wall by forming a closed magnetic path having a gap for a magneto- resistance element MRE. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-Fe thin film is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 10 as a MRE11 with 300-500Angstrom thickness and then patterned into a closed magnetic path having a gap 12 by photolithography. Here the track width direction of the Ni-Fe thin film is defined as an axis easy for magnetization by vapor deposition carried out in a magnetic field. Then electrodes 14a and 14b are formed for detection of only the resistance change of the center effective part 13 of the MRE11. A protection layer (not shown here) is formed with SiO2, etc. above the MRE11 and electrodes 14a and 14b. The sliding face of a magnetic recording medium 15 is processed into a prescribed form and then into an MR head with lapping. The signal magnetic field generated from the medium 15 crosses the part 13 of the MRE11 to change the resistance of the MRE11.
