PURPOSE:To obtain a carrier having high film strength and excellent in catalytic activity, by adhering a slurry containing an activated alumina powder with a specific average particle size or less to a carrier before baking. CONSTITUTION:In the catalyst carrier of platinum used in the purification of the exhaust gas of a car, an acidic aqueous slurry containing an activated alumina powder with an average particle size of 10mum or less and at least one of rare earth metal oxide, cobalt oxide and zirconium oxide is adhered to a monolithic carrier and backed. By this method, a catalyst carrier consisting of 50-99wt% of alumina and 1-50wt% of metal oxide and having high film strength and excellent in catalytic activity is obtained. When activated alumina with a specific surface area of 75m<2>/g or less is used, a carrier excellent in heat resistance is obtained and, when a slurry with solid content of 50wt% or more is used, the stability and dispersiblity of the carrier are improved. |
