PURPOSE:To provide a molded rubber article having plasma-polymerized layer of a chlorine compound on the surface, having decreased gas-permeabillity without deteriorating the characteristic features of rubber, having excellent sealability, and suitable for a plug of accumulator, a sealing part of a food- processing machine, an O-ring, etc. CONSTITUTION:The molded rubber article 1 to be treated is placed on the table 3 in the reaction chamber of a plasma-polymerization apparatus 2. A plasma is generated by the high-frequency power source 4 and applied to the article 1 by the aid of the matching box 5 and the coil 6. A chlorine compound is introduced into the chamber through the line 7 to effect the plasma- polymerization on the molded article 1. A plasma-polymerized layer is formed on a rubber having a gas-permeability of preferably <=10cm<3>/cm<2>.day.atm.
