An air intake system which is arranged between the two cylinder rows (1, 2) of a reciprocating piston-type internal-combustion engine has an air-collecting receiver (3) which is divided by a partition wall (4) into two air chambers (5, 6) of equal size which are connected by two intake pipes (9, 10) to the air filter (15). The individual intake pipes (5a-6d) are connected to one of the two air chambers in accordance with the ignition sequence of the cylinders associated with them. An opening in the partition wall, the said opening connecting the air chambers, is controllable by a butterfly valve (8), which occupies the open position in the upper speed range of the internal-combustion engine. <IMAGE>
