PURPOSE:To display the function of an automatic answering telephone set sufficiently at the time of absence and to prevent the automatic answering telephone set from being started at the time of presence by holding the telephone set automatically at the waiting status during a previously fixed period, and after the passage of the time, releasing the waiting status. CONSTITUTION:The operation start time and the operation end time of a timer circuit 10 can be set up by using an operation start time setting switch 11 and an operation end time setting switch 12 for the timer circuit 10. During the period that an ON/OFF switch 3 is turned on by the timer circuit 10, the telephone set is held at the waiting status, and if the telephone set is terminated during the period, automatic answering operation is executed. Since the automatic answering telephone set is automatically set up at a fixed time every day and held at the waiting status and then automatically reset at another fixed time every day, troubles such as the fail of waiting status in absence or the actuation of the automatic answering operation during the presence can be removed.
