PURPOSE:To always enable accurate measurement of water of bulk solid material, by shaking a container for a specified time after the bulk solid material is put thereinto to measure water of the bulk solid material. CONSTITUTION:Rice 3 to be measured is fed into a container 2. Then, a coil 9 is energized with an alternating current and a vibrating base 6, namely, the container 2 is shaked vertically. As the bulk of the rice 3 fed decreases gradually, the rice 3 fills to the level as shown by the dotted line after a specified time and thus, the bulk is kept almost constant. Under such a condition, by measuring the electrostatic capacity C of the rice 3 between the electrodes 4a and 4b with a electrostatic capacity meter 5, correct water of the rice can be learned. The measurement of the electrostatic capacity C can be measured while shaking the container or it can be done after the stoppage of the shaking.
