AQUEOUS SOLVENT COMPOSITION FOR CELLULOSE

PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which well dissolves cellulose to form a stable soln., consisting of an alkali metal hydroxide and CS2. CONSTITUTION:A solvent (e.g. water) contg. an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g. NaOH) at a concn. of 1-5mol/l is cooled to -18-10 deg.C, and 0.01-1mol (per glucose residue of cellulose to be dissolved) of CS2 is added thereto to obtain an aqueous solvent compsn. for cellulose. The compsn. is cooled to -18-4 deg.C and cellulose is dispersed therein. The dispersion is mixed under stirring to dissolve cellulose.
