PURPOSE:To enable printing to be conducted on a recording paper having a low smoothness, by controlling the melting point and the softening point of a heat-fusible material comprising a binder or the like and applied to a base of a thermal transfer sheet, in the thickness direction of the material. CONSTITUTION:Two ink layers 2, 3 having different melting points are sequentially provided on the base 1 by sequential coating so that the melting point of the ink layer 2 in contact with the base is lower than the melting point of the upper ink layer 3 and is higher than the softening pint of the upper ink layer 3. In the process of thermal transfer recording by using a recording paper having a low smoothness, the thermal transfer sheet can be set into a condition wherein the ink layer 2' beneath a heating resistor 21 is melted and the ink layer 3' therebeneath is softened. By melting the ink layer 2', the adhesion of the base 1 and the ink layer 2' is weakened, and by softening the ink layer 3', an adhesive force is generated at the part where the ink layer 3' makes contact with the rough-surface paper 6, thereby forming a bridge of the ink layers 2', 3' at a non-contact part. Accordingly, the heated ink layers 2', 3' are transferred onto the paper 6. |
