PURPOSE:To enable a character, a symbol or the like transfer recorded by a thermal printer to be effectively corrected by a simple construction, by providing a correcting means for applying printing energy higher than that for transfer recording to a thermal head to correct a character, a symbol or the like recorded on a recording paper. CONSTITUTION:When printing energy is applied to a printing tape 6, a heat- fusible material 11 provided on a polyester film 10 is melted, and a character A is transferred onto the recording paper 12. To correct the character A, the thermal head 4 is disposed opposing to the character A through the tape 6, and energy higher than that for printing is applied to the head 4, whereby the material 11 on the tape 6 is fused with the heat-fusible material 11' constituting the character A. Next, the tape 6 is separated from the paper 12, upon which, since the affinity of the film 10 for the material 11 is by far stronger than the affinity of the paper 12 for the material 11, the character A is removed from the paper 12 together with the material 11.
