PURPOSE:To expedite the warming-up of an engine, by providing rocker arms on shafts to open and close a plurality of intake and exhaust valves, and by coupling the mutually neighboring rocker arms to each other through a clutch, and operating the clutch depending on the temperature of the engine. CONSTITUTION:An engine having a plurality of intake valves 3 or exhaust valves 4 for one cylinder 2 is provided with rocker arms 5, 6 for opening and closing the valves 3, 4. The rocker arms 5 for the intake valves 3 consist of a driving rocker arm 10 connected to a valve moving cam through a push rod 9, and a driven rocker arm 12 which can be connected to the driving rocker arm through a dog clutch 11. When the temperature of the engine is detected to be low, the clutch 11 is disengaged to keep a part of valves out of operation so as to expedite the warming-up of the engine. |
